The Yard Creative Design Awards
BEST SHOP FRONT: Awarded to the shopfront that demands you to enter their store and captures the essence of the brand.
Winner: Vans
We all agreed that the aim of a good shop front is to entice passers by in, show off the products and remain on-brand.
We felt that the Vans store did exactly this. It may not be the most sophisticated design, but then nor is the brand. With its simple floor to ceiling glass façade and clear, bold signage it allows the interior of the store and the products displayed within to speak for themselves.
So what makes this shop front so unique then?! Well it’s the angled concrete ramp that wraps up to one side. It resembles a half-pipe, which is a nice touch since the Vans brand has been an essential partner for skate enthusiasts since it launched in 1966.
Our field of peripheral vision can be a maximum of 170 degrees but the faster we walk the narrower this becomes. With customers speeding along the high street it’s quite a challenge for stores to catch grab their attention but his ramp at the Vans store is recessed at a slight angle subconsciously drawing in, not only the eyes but also the feet of passers by!
